Every O-Level English component in one weekly class — taught with clear models, marked practice and exam technique, and pitched to each student’s level from Secondary 1 through to Secondary 4.
Paper 1 – Editing, Situational & Continuous Writing
- Editing: grammar, spelling and punctuation errors in context
- Tenses, subject-verb agreement and sentence structure
- Situational writing: purpose, audience, context and tone
- Formats: formal and informal email, report, speech, proposal, letter
- Selecting and developing points from the given text and visuals
- Continuous writing: narrative, descriptive, expository and argumentative
- Planning and paragraphing with PEEL
- Sentence variety and precise, mature vocabulary
- Effective introductions, conclusions and overall coherence
Paper 2 – Comprehension & Summary
- Visual text: purpose, audience, persuasive techniques and layout
- Narrative comprehension: inference, tone, atmosphere and character
- Language use: connotation, imagery and literary devices with their effects
- Non-narrative comprehension: main ideas, evidence and writer’s attitude
- Paraphrasing accurately in own words
- Summary writing: selecting relevant points, condensing and linking
- Question-type strategy and mark allocation
- Vocabulary in context and precise word choice
Paper 3 & 4 – Listening & Oral Communication
- Listening comprehension: note-taking and key detail recognition
- Understanding a speaker’s tone, purpose and implied meaning
- Reading aloud: pronunciation, pace, pausing and expression
- Spoken interaction: developing a considered personal response
- Structuring answers with clear reasons and examples
- Handling follow-up questions with confidence
- Building fluency and reducing hesitation
From Sec 1 to the O-Level paper
Students join at their own level and follow the same method as they move up. Lower Secondary lays the language foundations; Upper Secondary converts them into exam marks.
