The Pathway

How P3/4 flows into P5/6

Nothing is taught in isolation. Every skill built in Primary 3 and 4 is the direct foundation for a PSLE component in Primary 5 and 6 — so pupils moving up continue the same method rather than starting again.

P3/4

The foundation we build

  • Accurate tenses, subject-verb agreement and sentence structure
  • A working vocabulary bank organised by theme
  • Confident paragraphing and clear story shape
  • Literal comprehension — finding and sequencing information
  • Reading aloud with correct pronunciation and pacing
Bridge

How it carries forward

  • Grammar accuracy becomes the basis for editing and synthesis tasks
  • Picture composition grows into free continuous writing with PAC
  • Descriptive vocabulary deepens into show-not-tell technique
  • Literal comprehension extends into inference and evidence selection
  • Oral fluency develops into stimulus-based critical response
P5/6

What is added at PSLE level

  • Synthesis and transformation of sentences
  • Situational writing: articles, reports and emails with PAC
  • Open-ended comprehension with inference and paraphrasing
  • Visual text analysis — purpose, audience and persuasive devices
  • Storybanking of common PSLE themes and model compositions
  • Full-paper timing and exam strategy
